On 14 August 2021, a crew member installed the SpaceChain Ethereum blockchain hardware multisig wallet technology on the International Space Station (ISS).

Ethereum is currently one of the mainstream public blockchains in the world. Through this node, SpaceChain will build an Ethereum multisignature service. This is the first demonstration of Ethereum hardware on the ISS.
The Ethereum node is migrated into the existing technical framework of the SpaceChain multisignature service. The Ethereum multisignature mechanism and the offline signature node in space are integrated to provide users with a reliable and secure payment solution. Point-to-point transaction data encryption mechanism is added to further enhance the security.  

The multisignature wallet on space nodes combines the technology of Gnosis's MultiSigWallet contract and Metamask wallet. The design of smart contract realizes the main functions of multisignature wallets including adding administrators, initiating transactions, confirming transactions and cancellation.

With Ethereum’s smart contract platform running in outer space, it enables SpaceChain to fortify blockchain applications and transactions with enhanced security and immutability, and allows more users and developers to get involved with SpaceChain’s technology.
